Spectrum Contract Buyout: How to Get Up to $500 When You Switch
Spectrum may reimburse up to $500 in documented early-termination fees when a qualifying residential customer switches to an eligible Internet bundle with TV and/or Voice. Confirm the package before canceling your old service, then submit the required form and itemized final bill on time.
Check eligibility before you cancel your old provider
Enter your ZIP code to begin. A Telemedia Solutions specialist will confirm the full service address, which Spectrum services are available, whether the intended package is eligible for the residential contract buyout, and the current package pricing before an order is placed.
We only use your information to check availability and follow up on your request. See our Privacy Policy.
There is no obligation to purchase. A ZIP code identifies the general market; serviceability and offer eligibility are confirmed at the complete address. Do not cancel existing service based only on a ZIP-code result.
How much could Spectrum actually reimburse?
Pick a scenario from this guide. The rule: the documented eligible ETF, up to $500 total.
$220potential reimbursement
Jordan installs an eligible Spectrum package, submits the complete bill on time and stays current. The final-month service charge and equipment obligations are not covered.
$500the maximum
The ETF is above the $500 cap. Customer responsibility: at least $150 plus non-ETF charges.
$435potential reimbursement
Both bills itemize eligible ETFs and go on one claim. The combined $500 cap still applies.
$500the maximum
The combined $740 exceeds the cap. Customer responsibility: at least $240 plus all non-ETF charges.
$0nothing to reimburse
The bill has regular service, a late fee and an unreturned gateway charge but no early-termination fee. Only an itemized ETF is reimbursed.
Don’t assumeconfirm the package first
Taylor orders Spectrum Internet without TV or Voice, then cancels an old contract expecting reimbursement. Confirm the qualifying package before canceling.
$0 herewrong program
The $500 home-service buyout does not apply to a financed phone. Sam must evaluate the separate Mobile Phone Balance Buyout.
Can be deniedeven with an eligible ETF
Alex has a $200 eligible ETF but sends the documents after the deadline. The charge is eligible, but the claim can still be denied.
Illustrative scenarios from this guide, not a guarantee. Spectrum makes the final eligibility and payment decision.
Spectrum’s contract buyout is reimbursement—not an automatic $500 bonus
Spectrum’s residential Contract Buyout Program can reimburse the actual early-termination fee shown on the previous provider’s bill, up to $500 total. A customer with a $180 eligible ETF can receive $180, not $500. A customer with $725 in eligible ETFs can receive no more than $500.
To qualify, the customer must order and install an eligible Spectrum bundle, keep the qualifying services active through redemption, keep the Spectrum account current, and submit the Contract Buyout form with the previous provider’s bill clearly showing the ETF.
Spectrum says verification can take 5–7 business days. After approval, payment is expected to arrive within 10 business days. The Spectrum-hosted form version I reviewed says the form and bills must be received within 60 days of installation of the qualifying services. Allow extra time if a previous provider takes weeks to issue the itemized bill.
Quick eligibility test
| Question | Required answer |
|---|---|
| Are you ordering Spectrum Internet with TV and/or Voice? | Yes—confirm the exact qualifying combination before ordering |
| Have the qualifying services been installed? | Yes, before redemption |
| Will you keep them active through payment? | Yes |
| Does the old bill identify the charge as an ETF? | Yes, clearly itemized |
| Are your name and service address visible on that bill? | Yes |
| Is the Spectrum account current? | Yes |
| Have you had Video (TV) service in the last 30 days? | Spectrum’s terms say you cannot—confirm how this applies to you |
| Are you submitting within the form’s deadline? | Yes—the current form version says 60 days from installation |
| Is the charge from a mobile or streaming service? | No; those do not qualify here |
| Have you already redeemed a buyout on this account? | No; one redemption per account |
Best practice: Verify the eligible Spectrum package, schedule installation, confirm the new service works, and only then cancel the old provider. Get the final itemized bill and submit it immediately.

We’ll check the address and the package before you touch your current service.
What does Spectrum’s contract buyout cover?
The program covers qualifying early-termination fees, often abbreviated ETF, charged by a previous residential Internet, television or home-phone provider. The amount is based on the ETF printed on the submitted bill, with a combined maximum reimbursement of $500. Spectrum says it reimburses only the ETF—not taxes, service fees, return-equipment fees or other charges.
Is this charge reimbursable?
Internet ETF
A clearly itemized Internet early-termination fee may qualify.
TV (cable or satellite) ETF
A clearly itemized cable or satellite TV early-termination fee may qualify.
Home-phone ETF
A clearly itemized home-phone early-termination fee may qualify.
Final month of service
The old provider’s normal final month of service is not covered. Only the ETF is reimbursed.
Taxes and late fees
Taxes, service fees and late fees are not covered.
Equipment return or balances
Equipment-return or unreturned-equipment charges, and modem, router, receiver or gateway balances, are not covered.
Installation charges
Installation charges are not covered.
Phone, hotspot or device balance
Cell phones, mobile hotspots, jetpacks and wireless-provider charges are excluded. Spectrum has a separate Mobile Phone Balance Buyout.
Netflix, Hulu or Prime Video
Subscription TV and streaming packages such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime Video are excluded.
Any amount not clearly identified as an ETF on the old provider’s bill is not reimbursed.
May qualify
- A clearly itemized Internet early-termination fee
- A clearly itemized cable or satellite TV early-termination fee
- A clearly itemized home-phone early-termination fee
- Eligible ETFs from more than one previous provider, subject to the same $500 total cap
Not covered
- The old provider’s normal final month of service
- Taxes, service fees and late fees
- Equipment-return or unreturned-equipment charges
- Installation charges
- Modem, router, receiver or gateway balances
- Cell phones, mobile hotspots, jetpacks and wireless-provider charges
- Subscription TV and streaming packages such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime Video
- Any amount not clearly identified as an ETF
This distinction matters because “cancellation bill” and “early-termination fee” are not interchangeable. A final bill can total $600 while containing only a $150 qualifying ETF. The potential reimbursement is $150—not the full bill.
Who qualifies for the Spectrum contract buyout?
Spectrum’s current residential FAQ and form establish several conditions. All must be considered together.
1. You must install qualifying Spectrum services
Spectrum promotes the program for customers ordering a Spectrum Internet bundle with TV and/or Voice. Its policy FAQ says you must install and actively maintain a combination of qualifying Video and Internet and/or Voice services. If all three services are not available in your area, all available services there must be active. Do not add an unwanted service solely for the buyout until the full package price and eligibility have been confirmed in writing.
2. You must maintain the package through redemption
Spectrum defines the redemption process as running from when you send the required documentation until you receive payment. Canceling or downgrading a required qualifying service before payment can make the claim ineligible.
3. The Spectrum account must remain current
Spectrum says the account must be current for the buyout to be completed. Pay Spectrum bills on time while the claim is under review.
4. The 30-day Video-service rule
Spectrum’s terms say you cannot have had Video service within the last 30 days. The form’s fine print refers to customers who have not subscribed to Spectrum TV services in the previous 30 days. Spectrum’s FAQ does not name the provider, so confirm how this rule applies to your situation before you order.
5. No outstanding obligations to Spectrum-related companies
Published form versions exclude customers with outstanding obligations to Charter, Time Warner Cable or Bright House Networks. Resolve an old balance before relying on the offer.
6. The old provider must actually charge an ETF
The program is reimbursement. If the previous contract is already complete, there is no ETF to reimburse. Normal final charges do not become eligible merely because they arrived after cancellation.
7. One redemption per account
Customers are eligible for only one Contract Buyout redemption during the life of the account. Combine all eligible provider bills on the same claim rather than sending separate requests.
8. Submit within the deadline
The Spectrum-hosted form version I reviewed says the form and bill(s) must be received within 60 days of installation. Other versions in circulation add “or two weeks from the date on the competitor’s final bill, whichever is later.” Ask Spectrum which applies, and do not wait until day 59.
Verify My Package and Eligibility
A specialist can check the package and walk through these rules with you.
Which Spectrum services must be ordered?
Spectrum’s own pages word this differently, which is why confirmation matters:
- The consumer page says: order a Spectrum Internet bundle with TV and/or Voice.
- The policy FAQ says you must maintain a combination of qualifying Video and Internet and/or Voice services.
- Form versions in circulation reference TV and Internet, or the full TV, Internet and Voice “Triple Play.”
Internet + TV is the clearly supported structure. Internet + Voice without TV is not clearly covered across Spectrum’s own policy and form language. Do not rely on it until Spectrum confirms it in writing for your address.
Internet + TV
Fits a customer leaving a provider that supplied Internet and television. Check TV tier, local channels, equipment, taxes and the post-promotion price.
Internet + Voice
Included in some of Spectrum’s offer language but not in its policy FAQ’s Video requirement. Confirm eligibility, number-port timing, equipment and full price.
Internet + TV + Voice
Fits a household moving all home services. Confirm total cost, ongoing rate and that every service must stay active through payment.
What are you ordering from Spectrum?
Internet only
Do not assume eligibility. Ask whether any current exception exists.
Internet + TV
Clearest qualifying structure. Confirm the TV tier, pricing and equipment.
Internet + Voice
Mixed signals in Spectrum’s language. Confirm in writing whether Voice-only bundles are coded as eligible at your address.
Internet + TV + Voice
Qualifying under all form versions we found. Confirm the full price and that every service must stay active through payment.
Internet + Mobile
Mobile does not qualify for this program. Evaluate separate Mobile promotions.
Mobile only
Not eligible. Check the separate Phone Balance Buyout program.

Eligible-package comparison
| Spectrum order | Contract buyout position | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Internet only | Do not assume eligibility | Ask whether any current exception exists |
| Internet + TV | Clearest qualifying structure | TV tier, pricing and equipment |
| Internet + Voice | Mixed signals in Spectrum’s language; confirm in writing | Whether Voice-only bundles are coded as eligible at the address |
| Internet + TV + Voice | Qualifying under all form versions I found | Full price and service-maintenance requirement |
| Internet + Mobile | Mobile does not qualify for this program | Evaluate separate Mobile promotions |
| Mobile only | Not eligible | Check the separate Phone Balance Buyout program |
Spectrum Mobile is explicitly excluded from the residential Contract Buyout Program. Because package prices and eligibility vary by address, confirm the current bundle and its normal post-promotion cost before switching. See our Spectrum Internet and TV bundles guide and Spectrum TV plans and channel lineup.
The safest order of operations
Following the right sequence prevents outages and protects the claim.
Step 1: Review the old contract before doing anything
Ask the old provider whether an ETF still applies, the estimated amount on your intended date, whether it appears on the next bill or a later statement, how to retrieve bills after online-account access closes, which equipment must be returned and by when, and whether a home-phone number must stay active until porting completes. An estimate or disconnect notice is useful for planning but is not the evidence Spectrum requires.
Step 2: Check the complete address and qualifying Spectrum packages
Confirm serviceability, package eligibility, promotional pricing, standard pricing, installation and equipment. Ask that the order notes reflect the Contract Buyout offer when applicable. Do not cancel the old provider yet.
Step 3: Order and install the qualifying Spectrum services
Complete installation and verify that Internet, TV and/or Voice works. If moving a home-phone number, allow the port to complete before disconnecting the old voice account.
Step 4: Cancel the old provider
Request cancellation and return its equipment using a trackable method. Keep receipts. Equipment charges are not reimbursable and can complicate the final bill. See our guide to switching to Spectrum from Xfinity, AT&T or Frontier.
Step 5: Wait for the bill that actually shows the ETF
Some providers first send a notice that a card will be charged on a specific date. Spectrum says it cannot accept that notice. On your next bill you should receive the itemized ETF, and some providers may take up to 30 days after the notice. If the first final bill lacks an ETF, call the old provider: Spectrum notes the fee may appear on a bill before or after the final statement.
Step 6: Submit the complete claim immediately
Use Spectrum’s online Contract Buyout form (you sign in to your Spectrum account to reach it). Upload the entire bill—not a cropped ETF line—and confirm every required field.
Step 7: Keep the Spectrum package active and current
Maintain qualifying services and pay bills during verification and delivery.
Step 8: Save proof and monitor the claim
Save the submitted form, documents, confirmation page or email, date and any claim reference. If Spectrum requests missing information, respond promptly and keep the correspondence.
Documents required for the claim
Prepare two items: the completed Contract Buyout form and the old provider bill or bills.
Information required on the form
The form version I reviewed requests:
- Name on the Spectrum account
- Spectrum service address, city, state and ZIP code
- Email address
- Phone number on the account
- Spectrum account number (12 or 16 digits)
- Previous provider name or names
- ETF amount from each provider
Use information that exactly matches the Spectrum account.
What the previous provider’s bill must show
- Account holder’s name and service address (Spectrum requires your name and address on the bill)
- Previous provider name
- Complete statement context
- A clearly itemized early-termination fee and its dollar amount
Spectrum says bills without the ETF clearly shown will not be accepted. If multiple providers are involved, attach every applicable bill and list all reimbursable ETFs on one form.
File preparation
- Export a clean PDF when possible; some form versions list .jpg or .pdf only.
- If photographing paper, capture every page in bright, even light.
- Do not crop off the customer name, address, provider or bill date.
- Ensure the ETF description and amount are readable at normal zoom.
- Do not submit a bank or credit-card statement. Spectrum says bank statements are not eligible.
Document checklist
How and when to submit the Spectrum Contract Buyout form
Online submission
Spectrum’s current Contract Buyout page directs customers to complete the online form, which requires signing in to a Spectrum account. The form lives in the support area at spectrum.net/support/forms/contract_buyout. Upload the full bill or bills and save the confirmation. Online submission is the best option because it avoids postal delay and gives you a digital record.
Email and mail options on older forms
Spectrum-hosted PDF form versions list an email submission option (mycheck@spectrum.com, with the account number in the subject line) and a mailing address if email is not available. Mailing addresses differ across form versions in circulation and I could not confirm which is current, so use the online form first. If you must mail, use the address on the newest form linked from Spectrum’s live page, send it with tracking, and keep copies.
Submission deadline
The Spectrum-hosted form version I reviewed says the form and bill(s) must be received within 60 days of installation of the qualifying services. Some other versions add “or two weeks from the date on the competitor’s final bill, whichever is later.” If the old provider delays the itemized ETF bill, document every request and contact Spectrum before the deadline. Do not submit a bank statement or estimated cancellation notice as a substitute.
Timing example
| Event | Example date |
|---|---|
| Eligible Spectrum package installed | October 5 |
| Old provider canceled after successful installation | October 6 |
| Final bill with itemized ETF arrives | October 24 |
| Complete claim submitted | October 25 |
| Verification window | Up to 5–7 business days |
| Payment arrival after approval | Within 10 business days |
| 60-day filing deadline (current form version) | December 4 |
Dates are illustrative. The safest approach is to submit as soon as the correct bill arrives.
How long does the Spectrum contract buyout take?
Spectrum separates review from delivery:
- Verification: up to 5–7 business days after the Contract Buyout Team receives your information.
- Payment delivery: within 10 business days after approval.
A clean claim may therefore take roughly two to three weeks from submission to payment. Mailing the claim, holidays, missing documents, eligibility questions or an outdated address can extend the timeline.
How is payment sent?
Spectrum’s FAQ says payment is sent to the person whose name is on the account. It cannot be mailed to the previous provider and Spectrum cannot directly deposit it. Form versions describe the payment as a check mailed to the Spectrum address of record, and older versions require cashing it within 180 days of issuance. Confirm the current terms.
This means you may need to pay the old provider by its due date before Spectrum reimbursement arrives. The program does not extend the old bill’s payment deadline.
Common rejection and delay reasons
Document problems
- The bill does not clearly say early termination fee. A total cancellation balance is not enough; ask for an itemized statement.
- A preliminary cancellation notice was submitted. Wait for the actual charged fee.
- A bank or credit-card statement was submitted. Not accepted.
- The image is cropped, blurry or incomplete. Submit the full statement.
- Names or addresses do not match. Confirm acceptance before switching; never alter documents.
Eligibility problems
- Non-ETF charges were claimed. Enter only the ETF amount.
- The Spectrum order is not a qualifying bundle. Do not assume Internet-only or Mobile-only qualifies.
- A required service was canceled too soon.
- The Spectrum account is past due.
- The claim arrived after the deadline.
- The 30-day Video-service rule applies.
- There is an old Spectrum-related balance.
- Multiple claims were submitted. One redemption per account.
- The charge is mobile or streaming related.
- The customer expected the full $500. “Up to” is a cap, not a flat reward.
What to do if Spectrum returns the claim
- Read the exact reason given.
- Correct only the missing or inconsistent item.
- Obtain a better statement from the previous provider if the ETF is unclear.
- Resubmit promptly within the applicable deadline.
- Keep the package active and the Spectrum account current.
- Save every submission confirmation and response.

We can talk through your bill and package before you file.
Do mobile cancellation charges qualify?
No. Spectrum’s residential home-service Contract Buyout Program excludes wireless providers and Spectrum Mobile service. It does not reimburse mobile service cancellation charges, hotspots, jetpacks or device-payment balances.
Spectrum has a separate Mobile Phone Balance Buyout. Spectrum’s mobile page currently describes it as covering your remaining device balance with a Visa Reward Card worth up to $2,500, at $500 per line for up to five lines, with the credit applied to the combined device balance across switched lines. Its own requirements include Spectrum Internet, 2 to 10 mobile lines placed within 10 days, transferring at least two numbers and sending your latest cell phone bill.
Keep these programs separate
| Program | Intended charge | Published maximum | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential Contract Buyout | Eligible Internet, TV and home-phone ETFs | $500 total | Requires a qualifying home-service package |
| Spectrum Mobile Phone Balance Buyout | Remaining device balances on switched lines | Up to $2,500 ($500/line, 5 lines) | Separate mobile eligibility rules and Visa Reward Card |
| Spectrum Business Contract Buyout | Eligible business-service ETFs | Up to $1,000 | Requires two or more Spectrum Business services; separate form |
Do not use the residential Contract Buyout form for a phone device balance. Do not assume a mobile promotion makes an Internet-only home-service order eligible for the $500 program. See our Spectrum Mobile guide.
Example switching scenarios
Scenario 1: $220 Internet ETF
Jordan leaves a provider that charges a clearly itemized $220 Internet ETF, installs an eligible Spectrum package, submits the complete bill on time and stays current.
Potential reimbursement: $220. The final-month service charge and equipment obligations are not covered.
Scenario 2: $650 satellite TV ETF
Maya’s satellite provider bills a $650 ETF. Her package and paperwork satisfy the rules.
Potential reimbursement: $500 maximum. Customer responsibility: at least $150 plus non-ETF charges.
Scenario 3: Two providers, $175 + $260
Chris had Internet from one company and satellite TV from another. Both bills itemize eligible ETFs and go on one claim.
Combined ETF $435; potential reimbursement $435.
Scenario 4: Two providers totaling $740
The Internet ETF is $300 and the television ETF is $440.
Potential reimbursement: $500 total. Customer responsibility: at least $240 plus all non-ETF charges.
Scenario 5: $480 final bill, no ETF
The bill has regular service, a late fee and an unreturned gateway charge but no early-termination fee.
Potential reimbursement: $0.
Scenario 6: Internet-only order
Taylor orders Spectrum Internet without TV or Voice, then cancels an old contract expecting reimbursement.
Do not assume eligibility. Taylor should have confirmed the qualifying package before cancellation.
Scenario 7: $700 phone payoff
Sam owes $700 on a financed phone and ports the line to Spectrum Mobile.
The $500 home-service buyout does not apply. Sam must evaluate the separate Phone Balance Buyout.
Scenario 8: Correct ETF, late submission
Alex has a $200 eligible ETF but sends documents after the deadline.
The claim can be denied even though the charge itself is eligible.
Is switching worth it after the buyout?
The reimbursement can remove a switching barrier, but it should not decide the entire purchase. Compare the ongoing Spectrum package cost with the old provider’s cost.
Simple 24-month framework
- Spectrum promotional package cost
- Spectrum standard or post-promotion cost
- Equipment, TV-related fees, installation and taxes
- Old provider ETF not reimbursed above $500
- Any overlap month while both services are active
- Savings or added cost from changing TV, Voice or Internet features
Illustrative example
Suppose the eligible Spectrum package saves $25 per month for the first year but costs $10 more per month afterward. The old ETF is $300 and qualifies for reimbursement.
- First-year monthly savings: $25 × 12 = $300
- Reimbursed ETF: up to $300
- Second-year added monthly cost: $10 × 12 = $120
- Net two-year advantage before equipment, taxes and one-time charges: approximately $480
The numbers change by address and package, which is why Telemedia should confirm both buyout eligibility and the real ongoing package price—not only the headline reimbursement. See Spectrum Deals and Promotions and what Spectrum costs after 12 months.
Spectrum contract buyout frequently asked questions
How does the Spectrum contract buyout work?
Order and install an eligible Spectrum Internet bundle with TV and/or Voice, cancel the old provider, obtain a bill clearly showing the ETF, and submit it with Spectrum’s Contract Buyout form. If verified, Spectrum reimburses the eligible ETF up to $500 total.
Does Spectrum give everyone $500?
No. Spectrum reimburses the actual eligible ETF shown on the bill, capped at $500. A $125 ETF can produce a maximum $125 payment.
What is an ETF?
ETF means early-termination fee: a contractual charge for canceling service before the required term ends.
Which Spectrum packages qualify?
Spectrum promotes Internet bundled with TV and/or Voice, and its policy FAQ describes Video plus Internet and/or Voice. Internet + TV is the clearest structure. Confirm the exact package at the service address before canceling the old provider.
Does Spectrum Internet alone qualify?
Do not assume it does. The offer is tied to an Internet bundle with TV and/or Voice.
Does Internet and Voice qualify?
Spectrum’s consumer page mentions Voice, but its policy FAQ refers to Video plus Internet and/or Voice, and several form versions reference TV. Verify the exact combination at the address, in writing, before ordering.
Do I have to keep Spectrum TV or Voice?
Qualifying services must remain active throughout redemption. Canceling a required service before receiving payment can invalidate the claim.
Should I cancel my old provider first?
No. Confirm and install the qualifying Spectrum package first. Verify the new service works and any phone-number port is complete before canceling the old service.
What bill should I submit?
Submit the complete statement that clearly shows the early-termination fee, with your name and service address. It may be the final bill, a bill before it or a later adjustment bill.
What if the final bill has no ETF?
Ask the old provider when the ETF will be itemized. Spectrum says some providers place it on a bill before or after the final statement.
Can I submit an estimated cancellation notice?
No. Spectrum says a notice stating that a card will be charged later is not acceptable. Submit the bill showing the actual ETF.
Can I use a bank statement?
No. Spectrum explicitly says bank statements are not eligible.
Are taxes reimbursed?
No. Spectrum reimburses only the ETF, not taxes, service fees, return-equipment fees or other charges.
Are unreturned-equipment charges reimbursed?
No. Return the old provider’s equipment by its deadline and keep the receipt.
Does it cover my last month of service?
No. Normal service charges are not ETFs, and Spectrum will not reimburse final charges upon canceling the previous provider’s service.
Does Spectrum pay my old provider directly?
No. Spectrum says payment is sent to the person whose name is on the account, not to the previous provider.
Can payment be direct-deposited?
No. Spectrum’s FAQ says it does not directly deposit the Contract Buyout payment.
How long does verification take?
Spectrum says verification can take up to 5–7 business days after it receives your information.
How long until the payment arrives?
Spectrum says payment should arrive within 10 business days after approval. A complete claim may therefore take roughly two to three weeks from submission.
What is the filing deadline?
The Spectrum-hosted form version I reviewed says the form and bills must be received within 60 days of installation of the qualifying services. Some other versions add “or two weeks from the date on the competitor’s final bill, whichever is later.” Confirm which applies.
Can I submit online?
Yes. Spectrum’s Contract Buyout page directs customers to its online form, reached by signing in to a Spectrum account. Save the confirmation after uploading the form and bills.
Can I mail or email the form?
Spectrum-hosted PDF form versions list email and mail options, but the addresses differ across versions in circulation. Use the online form first; if you must mail or email, use the details on the newest form linked from Spectrum’s live page.
Can I claim ETFs from two old providers?
Yes. Spectrum says multiple providers can qualify. Submit a bill from each provider and list all eligible amounts on one form. The combined cap remains $500.
Can I submit more than one buyout claim?
No. Spectrum says only one Contract Buyout redemption is available during the life of the account.
Can a roommate’s ETF qualify on my Spectrum account?
Spectrum requires your name and address on the previous provider’s bill. Confirm eligibility before switching if the names or addresses differ.
Does Spectrum Mobile qualify?
No. Mobile services and wireless-provider charges are excluded from this home-service Contract Buyout Program.
Does Spectrum have a separate mobile buyout?
Yes. Spectrum’s Phone Balance Buyout covers remaining device balances with a Visa Reward Card worth up to $2,500, at $500 per line for up to five lines. It requires Spectrum Internet, 2 to 10 mobile lines and transferring at least two numbers, and it has its own rules.
Do Netflix or Hulu cancellation fees qualify?
No. Spectrum excludes subscription TV and streaming packages such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.
What if my ETF is more than $500?
Spectrum’s maximum reimbursement is $500. The customer remains responsible for the balance and all other charges.
What if I finished my contract and have no ETF?
There is nothing to reimburse. Spectrum says it only reimburses ETFs and will not reimburse final charges upon canceling your previous provider’s service.
Can a previous Spectrum customer qualify?
Spectrum’s terms say you cannot have had Video service within the last 30 days, and form versions exclude customers with outstanding obligations to Charter-related companies. Confirm full eligibility before ordering.
What if Spectrum returns my submission as incomplete?
Correct the requested issue and resubmit promptly. Keep the account current, maintain the qualifying services and watch the deadline.
Is the reimbursement taxable?
The Spectrum program pages I reviewed do not address taxes. Keep the payment documentation and ask a qualified tax professional if the treatment matters to your situation.
Is Spectrum’s contract buyout available for business customers?
Spectrum Business has a separate program with different qualifying services and forms, currently up to $1,000 for eligible business ETFs, and it requires two or more Spectrum Business services. Do not use the residential form for a business claim.
Can Telemedia approve my reimbursement?
No. Telemedia Solutions can help confirm available packages and explain the published requirements, but Spectrum makes the final eligibility and reimbursement decision.

Final verdict
Spectrum’s Contract Buyout can remove up to $500 of the cost of leaving another home-service provider, but it is a documentation-based reimbursement program—not instant credit and not a flat reward.
The strongest claim follows a disciplined sequence:
- Confirm an eligible Spectrum Internet + TV and/or Voice package at the complete address.
- Install and test the new services.
- Cancel the old provider and return its equipment.
- Obtain the full statement with the ETF clearly itemized.
- Submit one complete claim before the deadline.
- Keep the Spectrum package active and the account current through payment.
The most expensive mistake is canceling the old provider before verifying that the intended Spectrum package qualifies. Check first; cancel second.

Sources and methodology
Fact-checked October 1, 2026. Program terms were checked against Spectrum’s consumer Contract Buyout page, its residential policy FAQ, its Mobile switching page and published form versions. Spectrum’s pages and form versions word some terms differently (qualifying services, the 30-day Video rule, deadlines and submission addresses), so where they conflict this page says so and directs customers to confirm with Spectrum. Telemedia Solutions does not decide eligibility and did not submit a test claim for this page.
