Internet Providers in Tyler, TX: Fiber, Cable & 5G Compared

Tyler is East Texas, not the Metroplex, and its internet map has no resemblance to Dallas’s. In the FCC filings, Optimum cable reaches nearly every Tyler address, while regional fiber networks cover most of the city too: Metronet about 84%, Vexus Fiber about 72% and AT&T Fiber about 71%. Spectrum and Frontier barely appear. Tyler also has the lowest broadband subscription rate we have profiled, 88.7%, so price matters here. This page lays out your real choices and what each costs over time.

The short answer

Price Optimum first, check AT&T Fiber next, and look at the local fibers

Optimum cable reaches nearly every address and has the lowest advertised starting prices. AT&T Fiber reaches about 71% and uploads as fast as it downloads. Metronet and Vexus Fiber are real fiber options on many streets, but we do not sell them, so check their own tools before you decide.

With a median household income of $65,527 and 88.7% of households subscribed, Tyler is a market where the price after year one and a locked rate matter more than the biggest speed number.

Tyler’s 88.7% broadband subscription rate is below Texas at 90.0% and the United States at 89.7%, and well below Garland (94.0%) and Allen (97.3%). With a median household income of $65,527, a monthly bill of $40 to $65 is a meaningful share of a household budget, which is why locked prices and low-cost plans are worth real attention here.

Who reaches the city

How much of Tyler each network says it covers

Coverage percentages come from what each provider has filed with the FCC for Tyler’s city limits, as an independent directory displayed in October 2026. A filing is the provider saying it can serve an address; it does not prove the line is already at your unit.

Optimum. Published plans are 300 Mbps at $35, 500 Mbps at $45 and 1 Gig at $55 a month, with no data caps or contracts. Optimum’s plan cards advertise a 1-year price lock, a $10 a month add-on extends it to three years, and its 1 Gig terms describe $55 a month for 36 months. The lock covers the monthly internet rate, not taxes, fees or equipment.

AT&T. Fiber 300 is $50 a month, 500 is $60 and 1 Gig is $70 ($35, $45 and $50 with an eligible AT&T wireless plan); the step-up after the first year depends on the tier. The directory lists AT&T DSL in about 86% of Tyler, so ask whether a quote is fiber.

Spectrum and Frontier. Neither shows meaningful coverage here (Frontier under 1%, Spectrum under 0.1%). If you were quoted either, confirm the address with the provider.

Planning estimates from published rates checked October 1–14, 2026, before taxes, fees and equipment. The Frontier and AT&T figures include Auto Pay and paperless billing. We verify the current price for your address before anything is ordered.

On paper Optimum is cheaper in year one at every tier, and over three years on 1 Gig it comes out about $780 cheaper ($1,980 against $2,760). On 500 Mbps over four years the two are close: Optimum’s total is up to $3,240 if its rate rises by the maximum each year, against about $3,060 for AT&T Fiber, so the winner depends on how much Optimum actually raises the rate after the lock. The caveat is upload speed: Optimum cable uploads at about 35 Mbps, while AT&T Fiber and Optimum fiber upload as fast as they download. Choose by how you use the connection, not by price alone.

Optimum’s two technologies

Optimum cable or Optimum fiber: how to tell which you get

Optimum sells under one brand but delivers two technologies in Tyler, and the plan name will not tell you which:

Optimum cableOptimum fiber
Reach in TylerAbout 100%About 27%

UploadAbout 35 MbpsSame as download

Before you order, ask which technology the address gets and what the upload speed will be. If it is cable and you upload a lot, compare it with AT&T Fiber (about 71%), where fiber is sold with symmetrical speeds.

Tyler’s lowest-in-set subscription rate

Keeping internet affordable in Tyler

With 88.7% of households subscribed and a median income of $65,527, cost is a real constraint for many Tyler households. Four things help:

  • Pick a locked price. Optimum’s 1 Gig terms hold $55 a month for 36 months, and its add-on extends the lock on other plans to three years; AT&T does not advertise a multi-year lock.
  • Buy the speed you use. 300 Mbps is $35 on Optimum and $50 on AT&T in year one ($35 with an eligible AT&T wireless plan), enough for most households of two to three people.
  • Ask about discount programs. The FCC’s Lifeline program discounts internet or phone service for qualifying households; check eligibility and the current benefit at lifelinesupport.org.
  • Avoid paying for gear twice. Ask what equipment is included and what any Wi-Fi extender costs before you add it.

Questions we get about Tyler

Common Tyler internet questions

What internet providers does Tyler have?

Optimum cable covers nearly every address, and fiber from Metronet (about 84%), Vexus (about 72%), AT&T (about 71%) and Optimum (about 27%) covers much of the city. Spectrum and Frontier barely appear. We sell Optimum and AT&T; Metronet and Vexus we do not.

What Optimum plans are available in Tyler?

Published plans are 300 Mbps at $35, 500 Mbps at $45 and 1 Gig at $55 a month, with no data caps or contracts. Confirm the plan and technology for your address, because availability and speeds are decided there.

Is Optimum cable or fiber at my Tyler address?

Optimum cable reaches about 100% of Tyler and fiber about 27%. Cable uploads at about 35 Mbps while fiber matches its download, so the technology at your address, not the plan name, decides upload speed.

Is Optimum’s price lock real?

Optimum’s plan cards advertise a 1-year price lock, and a $10 a month add-on extends it to three years; its 1 Gig terms describe $55 a month for 36 months. The lock covers the rate, not taxes, fees or equipment, so confirm what else is billed and what happens after the lock ends. Some earlier 2026 sources described a five-year lock, so confirm the term for your address.

How many Tyler addresses can get AT&T Fiber?

About 71% in the FCC filings. The directory also lists AT&T DSL in about 86% of Tyler, so ask whether a quote is fiber, which uploads as fast as it downloads, or DSL, which does not.

How much does Optimum save over AT&T in Tyler?

On 1 Gig over three years, about $1,980 for Optimum against $2,760 for AT&T Fiber, roughly $780. On the 500 Mbps tier over four years the two are close: up to about $3,240 for Optimum if its rate rises by the maximum each year, against about $3,060 for AT&T Fiber. Optimum cable uploads slower, so weigh uploads too.

What are Metronet and Vexus Fiber in Tyler?

Regional fiber networks reported at about 84% and 72% of Tyler, advertised up to 5 Gig and 1 Gig each way. We do not sell either, so check their own address tools and compare their price after the promotion with the plans we can order.

Are Spectrum or Frontier available in Tyler?

Neither shows meaningful coverage in the filings: Frontier is under 1% and Spectrum under 0.1%, so they are not part of this comparison. If you were quoted either, confirm the address with the provider directly.

Why is Tyler’s broadband subscription rate lower?

The Census puts Tyler at 88.7% against 90.0% for Texas, with a median household income of $65,527. Lower-income, renter-heavy cities tend to have fewer households paying for broadband, which is why price and locked rates matter more here.

Is internet affordable on Tyler’s median income?

A $45 Optimum plan (500 Mbps) is about 0.8% of a $65,527 household income, while a plan that steps up after year one costs more over time. A locked price and the right speed tier do the most to keep the bill down.

Is there help paying for internet in Tyler?

The FCC’s Lifeline program discounts internet or phone service for qualifying households. Check eligibility and the current benefit at lifelinesupport.org, and ask any provider whether a discount program applies before you order.

About 45% of Tyler households rent. What should renters ask?

Which providers are wired to your unit, whether internet is bulk-billed, whether you may order your own, and whether any price lock or promotion moves with you if you leave.

What top speed can a Tyler household order?

Metronet advertises up to 5 Gig and AT&T up to 5 Gig where multi-gig is built; Optimum’s filings show up to about 940 Mbps in Tyler. Most households do well below 1 Gig.

Which Tyler provider is strongest for video calls and uploading files?

AT&T Fiber, Optimum fiber, Metronet or Vexus, where available, because all upload as fast as they download. Optimum cable uploads at about 35 Mbps and wireless is lower and variable.

Is fiber better for gaming in Tyler?

Typically, since steady latency matters more than raw speed. Connect the console or PC with Ethernet, and check whether your address gets cable or fiber.

Is 5G home internet available in Tyler?

T-Mobile and Verizon each report about 100% of the city. It self-installs in minutes, but speed varies with signal and tower load, and uploads are lower than fiber.

Is AT&T Internet Air a fallback in Tyler?

It reports about 93% of the city but is fixed wireless, not fiber. It suits homes without fiber and short stays, with speed that depends on signal.

I’m moving to Tyler. How early should I order?

Two to three weeks before the move, since installs bunch up around the first of the month. A building not yet wired may need a technician visit.

Does buying a Tyler plan through Telemedia Solutions cost more?

No. We are an independent authorized retailer, and the price on any plan is set by the provider, not by us. The provider controls pricing, billing, installation and support, and can compensate us for completed orders without increasing what you pay.

How do you check service at a specific Tyler address?

You start by giving us the street address and unit number. We check which providers we can order there, tell you whether Optimum is cable or fiber, explain the price after the promotion, and say plainly if the best fit is a network we do not sell.
