The short answer

Two fibers compete here: check AT&T first, then Frontier

AT&T Fiber reaches almost every Allen address, so it is the easy first check. Frontier Fiber reaches about half of the city, which makes it a coin flip for your street, but where it does reach, its locked price is the cheapest of the providers we sell over four years.

Spectrum cable is the near-universal fallback. With a median household income of $129,130 and a 97.3% subscription rate, Allen is a market where most people already pay for internet, so the useful questions are upload speed, price after year one and how long you plan to stay.

Allen’s 97.3% broadband subscription rate is the highest among the North Texas cities we have profiled, ahead of Lewisville at 96.3% and Wylie at 95.9%. With nearly everyone already connected, switching is almost always about paying less or getting faster uploads, not about getting online.

Only about 30% of households rent, far fewer than in Irving (62%) or Lewisville (53%), so more Allen households can choose their own network. That makes the AT&T-versus-Frontier decision below a real one for most readers.

Every figure here comes from the Census QuickFacts page for Allen and covers the whole city, so your own street may look different.

What is different in Allen

Allen is a work-from-home city: what that changes

Allen’s broadband subscription rate is already the highest we profile, so the Census tables that matter here are about the homes and the work people do in them.

What the Census showsAllenWhat it means when you choose internet
Workers who work from home27%About one in four Allen workers works from home, the most among Allen, Arlington, Grand Prairie and Lewisville. Video calls, VPNs and cloud files make upload speed and a dependable router more important than the download number on the box.
Homes built since 200060%Allen’s housing is the newest of the four cities, and about 27% was built since 2010. Newer homes are more likely to have been wired for modern service, but that depends on the builder and neighborhood, so ask what is already run to the home.
Single-family detached homes73%Most Allen households live in a standalone home and can usually choose their own provider, which is why the AT&T-versus-Frontier decision below is a real one for most readers.
Homes in buildings with 20 or more units16%About one home in six is in a larger complex, where the property’s arrangements can narrow your choices.
Households that moved in since 202030%Three in ten households arrived in the last few years, including about 59% of renting households, so many are choosing a provider at this address for the first time. Ask for the price after the promotion and the install date before you order.
Households with no internet subscription3%Almost everyone already has service, so switching is mostly about paying less or getting better uploads, not about getting online.

For a household where a quarter of workers are remote, the decision comes down to upload speed, router quality and what the price becomes after year one. Allen’s two fiber networks make that comparison worth doing rather than defaulting to cable.

These are rounded citywide estimates, and a single street or building can differ. Our reading of each figure sits in the last column; the Census does not publish that part.

Which networks actually reach an Allen address

The percentages below come from providers’ own filings to the FCC for the area inside Allen’s city limits, as an independent directory listed them in October 2026. A filing means the provider says it could serve a location; it does not mean wiring already reaches your door.

AT&T. Fiber 300 is $50 a month, 500 is $60 and 1 Gig is $70 ($35, $45 and $50 with an eligible AT&T wireless plan), and the step-up afterward depends on the tier. The directory also lists older AT&T DSL in about 99% of Allen, which is not fiber, so confirm which one an address gets.

Frontier. Fiber 500 is $44.99 with Auto Pay, guaranteed for four years, with a $100 installation fee that disappears on 1 Gig and up. Frontier is now owned by Verizon (closed January 20, 2026) and still sells as Frontier.

Spectrum. $30 for 100 Mbps and $40 for 500 Mbps in year one, then $50 and $85. The Gig plan uploads at roughly 35 Mbps.

Planning estimates from published rates checked October 1–14, 2026, before taxes, fees and equipment. Frontier and AT&T prices include Auto Pay and paperless billing. Before you order, we re-check the live price for your address.

With two fibers on the table, the gap between them is smaller than the gap to Spectrum: Frontier saves about $900 over AT&T on the 500 Mbps tier across four years, while Spectrum costs about $480 more than AT&T. If Frontier reaches your street, that locked rate is the tie-breaker.

The decision Allen readers face

AT&T Fiber or Frontier Fiber: which fits your situation

Where both reach your address, they are close on speed and neither has data caps. These situations tip the choice:

If you…Lean towardWhy

Neither choice is wrong. The mistake to avoid is comparing year-one prices only: AT&T’s price can step up after twelve months while Frontier’s rate stays flat.

A practical guide

Switching providers in Allen without losing service

  1. Confirm the new provider’s install date first. Do not cancel anything until you have a confirmed date and, if needed, a technician window.
  2. Keep the old service until the new one works. Run both for a few days so a delay never leaves you offline, especially if you work from home.
  3. Ask about equipment returns. Providers set their own return windows and unreturned gear can be billed, so get the deadline and a drop-off or shipping method in writing.
  4. Check the last bill. Look for prorated charges, early-termination fees and any promotion credits that stop when you cancel.

With Hotwire reported at about 39% of Allen, also check whether your community’s agreement includes internet before you cancel or order, since a bulk arrangement can keep billing you whether or not you use it.

Questions we get about Allen

Allen internet questions, answered

Why does Allen have two real fiber networks?

The FCC filings show AT&T Fiber at about 98% of Allen and Frontier Fiber at about 50%, so the city sits between the pattern of AT&T-led cities like Fort Worth and Frontier-led ones like Garland. Which one reaches your street is the question to settle first.

If both fibers reach my Allen address, which should I pick?

For a stay of four years or more, Frontier’s locked rate usually wins on cost. For a shorter stay, or if you already have AT&T mobile, AT&T Fiber can be simpler. Compare the price after year one, not just the first-year rate.

How much cheaper is Frontier than AT&T in Allen over four years?

On the 500 Mbps tier, about $2,160 for Frontier Fiber against $3,060 for AT&T Fiber, a difference of roughly $900, because Frontier’s rate stays flat while AT&T’s price can step up after year one.

Allen has a 97.3% broadband rate. What does that mean for me?

The Census reports that 97.3% of Allen households have a broadband subscription, the highest of the North Texas cities we profiled. Almost everyone is connected already, so switching is about paying less or getting better uploads.

With a $129,130 median household income, is the cheapest plan the right plan?

Not always. When most neighbors can afford a fast plan, the better question is value: upload speed, a locked price and good Wi-Fi often matter more than saving $10 in year one. Match the plan to how many people and devices you have.

How many people per household should I plan for in Allen?

The Census average is 2.96 people per household. For three or four people, 500 Mbps on fiber is a comfortable default, and a good router matters as much as the speed number.

What is Hotwire in Allen?

Hotwire is a community fiber network reported at about 39% of Allen and advertised up to 8 Gig each way. It is typically delivered through a property or community agreement, and we do not sell it, so ask your HOA or property manager what is included.

Can I get Optimum in Allen?

Optimum cable appears in about 11% of Allen. We can check it at your address alongside AT&T, Frontier and Spectrum so you can compare real prices and terms; our Optimum page lists its plans.

What is Astound in Allen?

Astound is reported at about 22% fiber and 36% cable in Allen, advertised up to 1.5 Gig. Astound is not something we sell, so use its own address tool and weigh its post-promotion price against the plans we can place.

Are Rise and 360 worth considering in Allen?

They are local fixed-wireless providers reported at about 74% and 36% of the city, advertised up to 300/60 and 200/50 Mbps. We do not sell them; with two fibers available, most households will prefer a wired plan.

Is AT&T in Allen fiber or DSL?

Both appear in AT&T’s Allen footprint: fiber at about 98% and older DSL at about 99% in the directory. Fiber is symmetrical and can reach multi-gig; DSL is copper at far lower speeds, so ask which one you are being quoted.

How much will my Allen bill rise after the first 12 months?

On AT&T, yes, by an amount that depends on the tier (about $5 on 500 Mbps and $10 on 1 Gig). On Spectrum, a lot: the 500 Mbps plan goes from $40 to $85. Frontier’s base rate is guaranteed for four years on Fiber 500 and five on faster plans.

How fast can internet get at an Allen home?

Frontier advertises up to 7 Gig and AT&T up to 5 Gig where multi-gig is built, and Hotwire up to 8 Gig in community deployments. Most Allen households do well below 1 Gig.

Which Allen network handles video calls and large uploads best?

Frontier Fiber and AT&T Fiber, because both upload as fast as they download. Spectrum’s cable plans upload at roughly 35 Mbps on the Gig plan.

Is fiber better for gaming in Allen?

Usually, because steady latency matters more than raw speed. Connect the console or PC with Ethernet, and choose a plan with a good gateway.

About 30% of Allen households rent. Does that change my options?

Renters have fewer choices than owners, but with about 70% owning, more Allen households can pick a network. If you rent, ask the property manager what is wired to your unit and whether internet is bulk-billed.

How do I switch internet providers in Allen without downtime?

Confirm the new install date before cancelling, keep the old service until the new one works, get equipment return deadlines in writing and check your last bill for fees. Do not cancel first.

Are Allen internet plans month to month?

AT&T and Spectrum sell month to month. Frontier has no data caps either, though some of its terms carry a prorated early-termination fee, so read the terms attached to your address.

Do Allen customers pay extra for ordering through Telemedia Solutions?

No. You pay the provider’s own price for the plan. We are an independent authorized retailer, and the provider handles pricing, billing, installation and support; it may pay us when an order completes, and that does not raise your price.

What does an address check for my Allen home involve?

Send us the street address and unit number. We look up which providers reach that exact spot, explain the technology and what the price becomes after the promotion, and tell you directly if the best option is a network we do not sell.
