Internet Providers in Garland, TX: Compare Fiber, Cable & 5G Options

Garland homes run bigger than most of North Texas, with 3.03 people per household in the Census data, and that changes what a good internet plan looks like. Frontier Fiber reaches about nine in ten Garland addresses in the FCC filings, Spectrum cable reaches almost all of them, and AT&T Fiber covers only about a quarter. Here is how to choose between them, what each will really cost, and how to check your exact address.

The short answer

Check Frontier Fiber first

Frontier Fiber reaches about 93% of Garland in the FCC filings, uploads as fast as it downloads, and its price is locked for four years on the 500 Mbps plan. Spectrum cable reaches essentially every address and costs less in year one. AT&T Fiber covers only about a quarter of the city, so treat it as a bonus if your street happens to have it.

The Census puts the average Garland household at 3.03 people, noticeably more than Fort Worth’s 2.76. More people usually means more devices and more video calls at once, which is why we point Garland households toward upload speed and Wi-Fi coverage instead of the biggest download number on the page.

Garland’s 94.0% broadband subscription rate is above Fort Worth’s 91.4% and well above Tyler’s 88.7%, so most people here already pay for internet. The decision is rarely whether to connect. It is which network is at your door and what the bill looks like once the promotion ends. On a median rent of $1,525, an internet bill of $50 to $80 adds roughly 3% to 5%, which is why a $35 difference per month deserves a second look.

How the three we sell compare in Garland

Frontier. Fiber 500 is $44.99 a month with Auto Pay, guaranteed for four years; faster plans carry five. The 500 plan has a $100 installation fee, and 1 Gig and up install free with a Wi-Fi 7 router included. Frontier is owned by Verizon (the deal closed on January 20, 2026) but still sells under the Frontier name. Our guide to what the Frontier–Verizon deal means covers the details.

Spectrum. The 100 Mbps plan is $30 for 12 months and the 500 Mbps plan is $40, then $50 and $85 from month 13. The Gig plan uploads at roughly 35 Mbps. It is the sensible pick for a short stay or where fiber has not been built.

AT&T. Fiber 300 is $50 a month, 500 is $60 and 1 Gig is $70 ($35, $45 and $50 with an eligible AT&T wireless plan), and the step-up afterward depends on the tier. If your street is in the roughly 25% it reaches, it is a strong plan, but do not count on it before checking.

Planning estimates from published rates checked October 1–4, 2026, before taxes, fees and equipment. Frontier and AT&T assume Auto Pay and paperless billing. We confirm the live price before any order.

For a family of three or four on the 500 Mbps tier, Frontier saves about $900 over four years compared with AT&T and about $1,380 compared with Spectrum, where it reaches.

Big households and renters

Choosing for a full house in Garland

At 3.03 people per household, a typical Garland home has several people streaming, gaming and working at the same time. The speed that matters most for that is usually the upload side and the quality of the Wi-Fi gateway, not a bigger download plan. A 500 Mbps fiber plan with a good router tends to feel faster than a 1 Gig cable plan with a weak one.

About 38% of households rent, and rentals often change the rules. Ask the property manager whether a provider is already wired to your unit, whether internet is included, and whether Hotwire is the building’s arrangement, since it reaches roughly a third of the city. If you cannot choose a wired provider, 5G home internet from T-Mobile or Verizon is a quick fallback, though speed depends on signal and tower load.

Month 13 is where the plans split

Garland’s 500 Mbps bill, year by year

Each figure is that year’s total for the 500 Mbps plan using published rates, before taxes, fees and equipment:

YearFrontier Fiber 500AT&T Fiber 500Spectrum 500
Year 1$539.88$720$480
Year 2$539.88$780$1,020
Year 3$539.88$780$1,020
Year 4$539.88$780$1,020
Four-year total$2,159.52$3,060$3,540

Spectrum is the cheapest in year one by $60 over Frontier and $240 over AT&T, then the most expensive in every year after. If you will be in Garland two years or less, that first-year edge can be worth taking; beyond that, the locked or flat-step plans win.

Planning for 3.03 people

Setting up a full Garland house so the plan actually feels fast

  1. Put the gateway in the middle of the house, not in a closet at one end. Walls cost more speed than a cheaper plan ever will.
  2. Wire what does not move. A TV, console or desktop on Ethernet frees Wi-Fi for phones and laptops.
  3. Test at peak time. Run a speed test around 8 pm with everyone home, not at noon, before you decide the plan is too slow.
  4. Add coverage before speed. If one room is weak, a mesh extender usually fixes it for less than upgrading a tier.

Frontier’s published plan details include a Wi-Fi 7 router, and on the 1 Gig tier and up installation is free, which helps in a house with many devices. Confirm what equipment your plan includes when you order.

Questions we get about Garland

Frequently asked questions

How much of Garland can get Frontier Fiber?

In the FCC filings we checked, Frontier Fiber reaches about 93% of Garland, which makes it the widest fiber network in the city. That counts addresses Frontier says it could serve, so a few streets inside the number may still be waiting on a connection. Check your exact address before you plan around it.

Is Frontier Fiber now owned by Verizon, and does that change my plan?

Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier on January 20, 2026, but Frontier still sells under its own name. Verizon said existing plans, deals and discounts stay in place, and you do not need Verizon mobile to order Frontier Fiber. A qualifying Verizon mobile plan can add a $15 monthly discount.

Why does AT&T Fiber only cover about a quarter of Garland?

AT&T has built fiber in select parts of Garland, and the FCC filings put its reach at about 25%. Where it is not built, AT&T may offer older DSL or the fixed-wireless Internet Air instead, neither of which is fiber. If your street is in that quarter, the plans are strong; if it is not, Frontier or Spectrum is the realistic choice.

What is Hotwire in Garland?

Hotwire is a community fiber network reported at about 32% of Garland and advertised up to 8 Gig each way. It is usually delivered through an apartment or neighborhood agreement rather than sold as an individual plan, and we do not sell it. Ask your property manager whether it is included and whether you may choose another provider.

With 3.03 people per household, what internet speed does a Garland home need?

For a household of three or four, 500 Mbps on fiber is a comfortable default, and the upload speed and Wi-Fi gateway matter as much as the headline number. Moving to 1 Gig makes sense with heavy cloud backups, a home office or many simultaneous gamers, provided your devices and wiring can use it.

Is Spectrum a good choice in Garland?

It is a good choice for a short stay or where fiber has not been built. Spectrum cable reaches essentially every Garland address and its 500 Mbps plan starts at $40, but that rises to $85 in month 13 and the Gig plan uploads at roughly 35 Mbps. Over four years it is the most expensive of the three we compare.

How much will I pay over four years on a Garland 500 Mbps plan?

On published rates, about $2,160 for Frontier Fiber 500 (where it reaches), $3,060 for AT&T Fiber 500 and $3,540 for Spectrum 500. Frontier’s price is locked for the whole period, AT&T’s steps up after year one, and Spectrum’s jumps from $40 to $85.

What do I do if I rent an apartment in Garland?

Start with the leasing office: ask which providers are wired to your unit, whether internet is included in rent and whether you may order another provider. About 38% of Garland households rent, and in many communities the building’s agreement matters more than what the street map shows.

Does a 94% broadband subscription rate mean everyone in Garland can get fast internet?

Not exactly. The Census figure says 94.0% of households pay for broadband, which is high, but it does not tell you the speed or the technology. Plenty of those households are on cable with slow uploads, so having broadband and having the right broadband are different questions.

Will my Garland internet price go up after the first year?

On Spectrum and AT&T, yes: Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan goes from $40 to $85 and AT&T’s fiber steps up by an amount that depends on the tier. Frontier is the exception where it reaches, because it guarantees its base rate for four years on Fiber 500 and five on faster plans.

Are Element8 and Nextlink worth a look in Garland?

They are local fixed-wireless providers reported at about 12% and 10% of the city, advertised up to 500/100 Mbps. We do not sell either, so check their own address tools, and compare upload speed, signal reliability and price after the promotion with the wired plans we can order.

Is AT&T Internet Air a real alternative where AT&T Fiber is missing?

It is a fallback. Internet Air is fixed-wireless home internet offered at some addresses, not fiber, so speeds depend on signal and tower load and uploads are far below fiber. It can make sense when no wired fiber reaches your street.

What are the fastest speeds I can get in Garland?

Frontier advertises fiber up to 7 Gig and AT&T up to 5 Gig where its multi-gig service is built, while Hotwire advertises up to 8 Gig in community deployments. Those top tiers do not reach every address, and most homes are well served below 1 Gig.

Which Garland option is best for uploads and video calls?

Frontier Fiber and AT&T Fiber, where available, because both upload as fast as they download. Spectrum’s cable plans upload at a fraction of their download speed, which you notice on video calls, cloud backups and large file sends.

Is fiber better for gaming in Garland?

Usually, because steady latency matters more than raw speed and fiber tends to hold up better at busy hours. Cable is a solid second. Either way, connect the console or PC with Ethernet.

Can I get Garland internet without a contract?

AT&T and Spectrum sell service month to month. Frontier has no data caps, but its terms can include a prorated early-termination fee in some cases, so read the terms for your address before you order.

I’m moving to Garland. How soon should I book installation?

As soon as you have the address and a move date. Installs bunch up around the first of the month, and a new address may need a technician visit. If the home is already wired, self-install can be faster.

What if a map says my Garland address is covered but I can’t order?

Coverage maps, including the FCC’s, show what a provider could serve, not what is wired to your unit. Common causes are a building with exclusive wiring, new construction that is not connected yet, or a street at the edge of a network. A call with your exact unit number usually settles it.

Does Telemedia Solutions add a markup to Garland internet plans?

No. We are an independent authorized retailer, so the plan price is the provider’s own. The provider sets pricing, eligibility, billing, installation and support, and may compensate us for completed orders; that does not raise what you pay.

How do I check internet at my exact Garland address?

A check starts with the street address and unit number. We check which providers reach it, explain the technology and the price after the promotion, and tell you plainly if the best fit is a network we do not sell.
