Internet Providers in Fort Worth, TX: Fiber, Cable & 5G Compared

Fort Worth is big enough that two neighbors can end up with different internet. In the FCC filings we checked, AT&T Fiber covers about nine in ten Fort Worth addresses, Spectrum cable reaches almost the whole city, and Frontier Fiber appears on only a thin slice. Below is what that means for your move, your lease and your bill, and how to check your exact address before you pay anyone.

The short answer

Check AT&T Fiber first, then Spectrum

AT&T Fiber covers about 93% of Fort Worth in the filings, uploads as fast as it downloads, and its advertised price can step up after the first year. Spectrum cable reaches about 99%, costs less in year one and noticeably more after. Frontier Fiber covers only about 9% of the city, but on the streets it does reach, its locked price is the cheapest of the three over four years.

One more thing before any of that: about 43% of Fort Worth households rent. If you are one of them, the building usually decides what you can order, so ask the leasing office first and use the street-level numbers below as a guide, not a promise.

Almost nine in ten Fort Worth homes already pay for broadband, so the question for most people is rarely whether to get internet. It is which network is physically at your door, what it costs once the promotion ends, and how fast it can send data back out. The median household income here is $76,602 (2023 dollars), which is why the price after year one matters more than the headline rate.

These are citywide averages from the Census QuickFacts table for Fort Worth. A street in Alliance and a street near the Stockyards can look very different, which is why we check addresses instead of quoting averages.

How the big three feel in daily use

AT&T Fiber. Plans start at 300 Mbps for $50 a month ($35 with an eligible AT&T wireless plan), with no data caps and no annual contract. The step-up after the first year depends on the tier: the 500 Mbps plan goes from $60 to about $65 from month 13, and 1 Gig from $70 to about $80. Its 1 Gig plan uploads at 1 Gig, which AT&T’s own comparison sets against cable’s roughly 35 Mbps. See AT&T’s Fort Worth fiber page.

Spectrum. The 100 Mbps plan is $30 for 12 months and the 500 Mbps plan is $40, which makes Spectrum the cheapest way in. The catch is the price after year one ($50 and $85) and the upload speed, which tops out around 35 Mbps even on the Gig plan.

Frontier. If your street is in the 9%, Frontier Fiber 500 is $44.99 a month with a four-year price guarantee, and faster plans carry five. Frontier is now owned by Verizon (the deal closed on January 20, 2026) but still sells under its own name.

Stay one year and Spectrum wins. Stay four and it costs about $480 more than AT&T and about $1,380 more than Frontier. On the Gig tier over five years the gap widens to $5,760 for Spectrum against $4,680 for AT&T and $3,899.40 for Frontier.

If you rent

Renting in Fort Worth: ask the building before the map

With roughly 43% of households renting, a large share of Fort Worth never gets to pick a network the way a homeowner does. Apartment communities sign access agreements, wire some units for one provider, and sometimes bundle internet into the rent. A map can show three providers on your street while only one is actually installed in your building.

Before you order, ask the leasing office four things: which providers are already wired to your unit, whether the rent includes internet, whether you may order a different provider, and whether any technology fee applies. If the answers are thin, 5G home internet from T-Mobile or Verizon self-installs in minutes and is a reasonable fallback, though its speed moves with signal and tower load.

A calculation worth doing

How long a 10 GB upload really takes in Fort Worth

Download speed gets the headline; upload speed decides how long a video backup, a work file or a photo library takes to leave your house. Here is the ideal-case time to send one 10 GB video (80,000 megabits):

ConnectionTypical uploadTime to send a 10 GB video
Spectrum cable (Gig plan)About 35 MbpsAbout 38 minutes
AT&T Fiber 500500 MbpsAbout 3 minutes
AT&T or Frontier Fiber 1 Gig1,000 MbpsAbout 1.5 minutes

Real-world times run longer because Wi-Fi, servers and other devices share the line, but the ratio holds: fiber is roughly 14 times faster than Spectrum’s upload, which matters if you work from home, back up to the cloud or post video.

Questions we get about Fort Worth

Frequently asked questions

How much of Fort Worth can actually get AT&T Fiber?

In the FCC data we checked, AT&T Fiber reaches about 93% of Fort Worth. That counts addresses AT&T reports it could serve, so a few streets inside that number may still be waiting on a connection. AT&T’s own Fort Worth page says fiber is available in parts of the city, which is the honest reading: likely, but confirm your address.

Is Spectrum worth considering if AT&T Fiber is available at my address?

Sometimes. Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan is $40 a month for the first year against $60 for AT&T’s 500, but it climbs to $85 in month 13 while AT&T’s steps to about $65. Over four years that is about $3,540 against $3,060. Spectrum can make sense for a short stay; for a long one, fiber usually costs less.

What does it mean that about 43% of Fort Worth households rent?

Census data for 2019–2023 puts owner-occupied housing at 56.7% in Fort Worth, so roughly 43% of households rent. For internet, renting often matters more than the street: the building’s wiring, the owner’s agreements and what your lease allows decide what you can actually order.

How many Fort Worth households have home broadband?

The Census reports that 91.4% of Fort Worth households had a broadband subscription in 2019–2023, a little above Texas at 90.0% and the United States at 89.7%. Almost everyone is already connected, so switching decisions are usually about price and upload speed, not about getting online.

Where does Frontier Fiber fit in Fort Worth?

It is a small footprint, about 9% of the city in the FCC data. Where it reaches, Frontier Fiber 500 is $44.99 a month with a four-year price guarantee, about $2,160 over four years, the lowest total of the three providers we compare. Frontier is owned by Verizon, which completed the deal on January 20, 2026, and still sells under the Frontier name.

Is there local fiber in Fort Worth besides the big names?

A few small networks show up in the filings: Hotwire (about 3% of the city, advertised up to 8 Gig), Pathwayz (about 1%), Centric Fiber (about 0.7%) and SimpleFiber (about 0.3%). They are mostly sold through building or neighborhood arrangements, and we do not sell them, so ask your property manager or check their own address tools.

What upload speed will I get from Spectrum in Fort Worth?

Spectrum’s cable plans download fast but upload slowly: the 1 Gig plan uploads at roughly 35 Mbps. AT&T Fiber’s 1 Gig plan uploads at 1 Gig. If you back up photos to the cloud, send large files or take daily video calls, that gap is the part you will actually feel.

Will my internet price go up after the first year?

Yes on every plan we compare except Frontier’s. AT&T Fiber’s step-up depends on the tier (for example $60 to about $65 on the 500 plan). Spectrum’s 500 plan jumps from $40 to $85. Frontier locks its base rate for four years on Fiber 500 and five on faster plans, where it reaches.

Is AT&T Internet Air an option if fiber isn’t at my address?

It can be. Internet Air is AT&T’s fixed-wireless home internet, offered at some addresses. It is not fiber, so speeds depend on signal and tower load and uploads sit far below fiber. We treat it as a fallback, not a substitute.

What speed does a Fort Worth home with several people need?

A household of three to five people is usually comfortable on 300–500 Mbps. The upload side matters more than most people expect, especially for video calls and cloud backups. Going past 1 Gig only helps if your devices and wiring can use it.

I’m moving to Fort Worth. How early should I order?

Order as soon as you have the address and a move date. Installs and apartment move-ins bunch up around the first of the month, and a new address may need a technician visit. If the home is already wired, self-install can be quicker.

Can I choose any provider in a Fort Worth apartment?

Not always. Some communities have a preferred or bulk-billed provider, and some buildings are wired for only one network. Ask the leasing office which providers are installed, whether you may order another, and whether there is a technology fee before you commit.

Are the fastest speeds available in Fort Worth?

Only in places. AT&T advertises up to 5 Gig where its multi-gig fiber is built, Frontier up to 7 Gig on its small footprint, and Hotwire up to 8 Gig in a few communities. Most homes will not need more than 1 Gig.

Is fiber better for gaming in Fort Worth?

Usually, because steady latency matters more than raw speed. Fiber tends to hold up better at busy hours, and cable is a solid second. Whichever you choose, connect the console or PC with Ethernet.

Is business internet in Fort Worth different from home service?

Yes. Dedicated business fiber, sold by providers such as Zayo, AT&T and others, is a separate product from home plans, and business directories point to downtown and the Alliance area as where it concentrates. If you run a business from home, ask about commercial terms, because a residential plan may not cover it.

What if a map says my address is covered but I can’t order?

It happens. Coverage maps, including the FCC’s, report what a provider could serve, not what is wired to your unit. The usual causes are a building with exclusive wiring, new construction not yet connected, or a street at the edge of a network. A phone check with the exact unit number usually settles it.

Does Telemedia Solutions charge more than going direct?

No. We are an independent authorized retailer, so you pay the provider’s own price. The provider sets pricing, eligibility and terms and handles billing, installation and support. We may be compensated by the provider for completed orders.

Can I get Fort Worth internet without a contract?

AT&T and Spectrum sell internet month to month. Frontier has no data caps, but its terms can include a prorated early-termination fee in some cases, so read the terms for your address before ordering.

Is T-Mobile or Verizon 5G home internet worth it in Fort Worth?

Both sell 5G home internet at eligible Fort Worth addresses. Setup takes minutes with no installer visit, which suits renters. Speeds and latency vary with signal and tower load, so treat it as an option to check, not a guarantee.

How do I check internet at my exact Fort Worth address?

A check starts with the street address and unit number. We check which providers reach it, explain the technology and the price after the promotion, and tell you honestly if the best option is one we don’t sell.
